Loose fitting clothing is preferred. It is also preferred if no moisturiser or skin emollient is applied on the arms and legs on the day of testing. These substances can degrade the quality of the recording.
Yes. Small electrical impulses are felt during testing. There are no significant side effects from nerve conduction studies apart from this sensation. EMG can rarely be associated with bruising.
Diagnostic testing is different from a consultation. Your referring doctor will discuss and interpret the results. If indicated, comprehensive neuromuscular assessment can be undertaken incorporating nerve conduction studies / EMG at the time of consultation.
Results will be sent to the requesting doctor within 24 hours of testing.
No additional information is required if only testing was requested. You should bring information regarding your medical history including list of medications and investigation results if a consultation was also requested.
